What Specialist Training is Offered and When?
Go to the Texas Master Gardeners website and select “Training” navigation button at the top, then select “Specialist Training” within that area to see what specialist training is offered this year and the class schedules.
Qualification & Application
The local AgriLife Extension Agent approves Master Gardener requests to take Specialist Training. Only 2 persons per County per class may attend. The class fee is initially at your expense but reimbursement is available upon completion of teaching requirement commitments.
To qualify to take the training, Master Gardeners must have 100 hours minimum of volunteer service (post certification) and commit to serve as a Master Gardener Specialist for one year and teach their specialty to others for 24 volunteer hours.
Costs and Reimbursement
Class fees vary by course and do not include hotel and travel expenses. Most Specialist Training classes last 2 – 4 days.
After completing the one year of local teaching commitment, contact the Extension office for information about reimbusement of fees. Fees are reimbursed in part by TMGA and in part from local funds.
